Competency 6, Reasons, Terminology, and Approaches to Database Design.

The purpose of our group Database project is to have a continuing archive of our personal music collections. More than just a mere reference to what albums, cd's, and tapes that we own. Rather than create another generic database we wanted it to be dynamic and offer a wide plethora of information.

Information Retrieveable by Query include:

  • Record Names
  • Record Length
  • Artists
  • Artist Info.
  • Songs
  • Song BPM's
  • Song Length
  • Record Labels
  • Label Addresses & Contact Info
  • Year Produced
  • Out of Print?
  • Music Categories
  • Sub Categories
  • Comments

My roles in approaching this project were:

      1. Analysis of the possibilities of our project. What information is important for us to include.
      2. Design of complete database structure and planned relationships amongst tables. How to make sure these tables contained referential integrity insuring one to many relationships.
      3. Data Acquisition in a variety of ways, as well as Data Entry into the many fields incorporated in tables.
